(EP Review) “Kill The Sun” by CANE HILL

January 20, 2019 by: admin

From the band that brought you “Too Far Gone” last year, 2018 was a stellar year for Rise Records’ own Cane Hill.  They released a critically acclaimed album, they played some shows, and they got to play at an NXT Takeover event to open the show and to perform with Halestorm’s Lizzy Hale for NXT Women’s Champion Ember Moon’s entrance music.  Now, Cane Hill has thrown their fans a curveball and released their introspective release entitled “Kill The Sun”.

With this EP, it is certainly a nod to the days of Temple Of The Dog’s “Say Hello To Heaven” and the legendary “Jar of Flies” album by Alice In Chains.  “Kill The Sun” showcases a dark side to Cane Hill, where Elijah Witt(vocalist) stated that sometimes he just “goes through some shit” in this album.  He writes the lyrics where others can relate to it, and I can tell from listening to “Kill The Sun”, that its introspective and that the lyrics that Witt have penned are quite therapeutic for the band.

“86d- No Escort” has some sweet harmonies and the guitar work in “Save Me”, somewhat reminds me of the guitar work in “Nutshell” by Alice In Chains in that it’s very bluesy and introspective.  With this release, fans get to peel away another layer of this stellar band and it allows Cane Hill fans to open up their minds to new possibilities from the band.  Check out this ode to the grunge rock of yesteryear of “Kill The Sun”.  Here is the track listing below:
