Goth rock outfit Sunflower Dead is offering fans an update on its next album.

The Long Beach, California-based band — Michael Del Pizzo (vocals, accordion), Jaboo (guitar), Jamie Teissere (guitar), Christian Olde Wolbers (bass) and Brian “Brett” Weir (drums) — will release Coma, its third full-length studio recording, October 19 via EMP Label Group.

The album is the follow-up to the band’s 2015 album It’s Time To Get Weird, whose title track featured Korn founder and front man Jonathan Davis on guest vocals.  According to a press release about COMA, this record will see Sunflower Dead moving in a new direction, reflecting the band’s overall approach and image, which includes stepping out from behind its theatrical stage shows and attire.

Del Pizzo expanded on that change in a recent interview, adding that decision to change included signing with a record label was needed as part of that change, leading to the band signing with EMP Label Group.

“Though we are extremely proud of what what we have accomplished on our own with the more theatrical version of the band, Sunflower Dead has grown considerably,” Del Rizzo said.  “The entire process of writing and recording this album was fueled by a sense of aggression unlike anything in our previous output.  It was clear to everyone involved that this was the moment to strip off the makeup, sign with a label and let the music speak for itself.  So we did, and when it came down to it, EMP was definitely the right place.”

Del Rizzo added the band’s connection with EMP’s Thom Hazert helped the band make the decision to go with EMP.

“We have known Thom forever. He actually helped launch SFD’s first album and got us our first national tour back in 2012,” Del Rizzo said.  “Combine that with having David Ellefson on our side, and this was an easy decision.”

Ellefson shared the band’s feelings about the two sides’ new relationship, saying he was just as pleased as the band’s members.

“Sunflower Dead is a great, hardworking band who truly embodies the the type of DIY ethos that EMP was built on,” Ellefson said.  “They have not only released their own records and had great success at radio, but also managed to tour the world supporting major artists, all without the support of a label. We’re proud to welcome them into the EMP family!”

Sunflower Dead is currently expected to tour this fall in support of COMA.  Tour dates will be announced in the coming weeks.  Those tour dates will be announced online along with all of the band’s latest news and more at:
