Nakedown have a unique and ambiguous name and an equally unique sound. They have definite influences of Fiona Apple and Amy Lee but they have a bluesy Latin rock sound that they own as their own distinctive sound. This is a great example of what an EP should be and shows many facets of a band that is coming into the music scene and wanting to get those facets heard. They have three completely different sounds on the EP and yet they all are immediately recognizable as belonging to the band with an eclectic fusion. They also have a great ability to fuse these individual skills to make the sound much larger and fuller than what you would expect from a three piece band.

“Awake” starts off somewhat slow and seems almost all vocals and then breaks out to great musical/instrumental work that is full on rock in perfection. The layering of voices is really effective in emphasizing how great the singers voice it. “Noah’s Day” is much more dramatic and welcomes a great male accompanying vocal to match the amped up guitars and heavier drums. “Sweet Kisses” goes in yet another but very interesting direction and has an almost Caribbean flavor to the music and softer vocals to match. Strings and acoustic percussion match the vocals and the lyrics perfectly.

This is a new band getting their feet wet with this EP in a big way! They are a great surprise to hear and to anticipate how they will completely unfold on a full album utilizing quality production and mixing that will match and expand their talent. Reminiscent of the early work by Amy Lee and Ben Moody, Nakedown are a band to watch to see how they evolve and in the interim enjoy the three songs they have available now.
