Although listed as metal and punk this self-titled debut album from Sinking Soul has a variety of sound to please many musical tastes. They have the same artistic metal/rock sound as bands like Within Temptation and Nightwish but add in vocals that are reminiscent of a mixture of Ann and Nancy Wilson quality and versatility. Although they have they have these hints of sounds don’t get the idea that they are a copy as their CD proves they are an original with a sound they have made completely their own.

One of the great attributes of the band is that they have taken each band member and their individual talents and provided a song to highlight each. Such is that case with “Temptation” where full on rock guitars take center stage and show off some amazing riffs. “Returning & Flights” turn your attention to the outstanding vocals and compliment it perfectly with another version a stellar guitar work in acoustic form. The combination makes this track a standout and a highlight of the album. “Into Your Arms” completes their talent showcase with stunning keyboard work that is difficult to tell where piano ends and synthesizers begin. Regardless, when combined with a slower almost chanteuse silky vocal performance, you are enticed in to listen again and again.

Sinking Soul stands out for so many reasons and even with just six originals and one cover tune you feel as though you have listened to a great full album. They utilize strings, unusual and intricate percussion and most of all amazing lyrical writing to bring forth a debut that is truly spectacular. This is one rock album that is a must have for the quality of all the elements and production that the band has put in to the CD. Grab it up and rock out over and over and hope they release a follow up soon!
