Gravity Clutch 3 Song Demo Review

3 song demo
Gravity Clutch aren’t breaking any new ground, but the piece of the well known yard they do cover is stomped into oblivion with boots made of punk tinged metal. And lets face it, is there a mandate stating that every new band must redefine their genre or create something that rivals the well working wheel? No. My opinion is that as long as you create something that comes across as honest and is executed with 100% dedication than mission accomplished. Gravity Clutch do just that.
The three songs found on this disc were no doubt forged from the members’ blood, sweat and tears. The music & vocals are a lethal strike to the face which is reminiscent of Fear Factory back in their “Soul of a New Machine” days. Angry, surgical, yet still raw and unnerving. Gravity Clutch also incorporate elements of anthem infused punk, giving the song’s facial expressions not only that of retribution but also the search for redemption and salvation.
Each member knows their weapon as if it were an extension of their own body and the band as a machine of mass destruction, are aware of every type of ammo they have in their arsenal and just how to use that ammunition. They also aren’t afraid of cooling the song off midway in exchange for opening up some space during it’s otherwise claustrophobic and suffocating assault. Musicians of a lesser god could easily drop the ball when attempting to pull off a trick such as this, but these guys have a strangle hold on the monsters they bring fourth, ultimately giving their creations lots of personality.
The production on this disc is great. Everything sounds big, angry and confident of itself. So many times bands will opt out for just throwing some shit together in someone’s bedroom on computer software in an attempt to quickly give exposure to the band via the web or burned discs. From the sounds of it, Gravity Clutch took the time and the effort necessary to put together these songs sonically in the format that they deserve. The pay off is a well thought out, extremely effective demonstration of great ass kicking things to come.
